About us
Vibrant Health Advocates – Zeta is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation based in Kirkcaldy. We exist because conventional health outreach never worked well for the men we're trying to reach — so we built something that does.
Who we are
Vibrant Health Advocates – Zeta is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation based in Kirkcaldy, Fife. We exist because the traditional model of health outreach — posters in GP waiting rooms, leaflets through letterboxes — has never worked well for the men we're trying to reach. Men in Fife, like men across working Scotland, have grown up with a particular understanding of what it means to be capable and self-sufficient. Asking for help, especially around health, can feel like an admission of failure. We don't challenge that identity — we work within it.
Our shed-style sessions take place in community halls, workshop spaces, and outdoor areas across Kirkcaldy and the surrounding Fife communities. Each session is anchored in a practical activity: timber projects, basic mechanics, growing food, or maintenance work that produces something real and useful. Within that environment, our trained health champions — most of them local men themselves — open conversations about blood pressure, bowel health, mental wellbeing, diabetes risk, and the hundred other things men quietly worry about but rarely say out loud. Referrals happen, but gently. Nobody is pushed.
We're governed by a volunteer trustee board with strong roots in Fife's community and healthcare sectors, and our work is delivered by a small, dedicated staff team supported by a growing network of community health champions. We work closely with NHS Fife, Fife Council's public health team, local GP practices, and a range of third-sector partners to make sure that when a man is ready to take the next step, the path forward is clear and supported.
Our story
Vibrant Health Advocates – Zeta grew out of a conversation that had been waiting to happen. A group of local men — some retired, some still working, all of them aware of friends and family members who'd left things too late — started gathering informally in a borrowed workshop space on the edge of Kirkcaldy's industrial area. They were fixing tools, sharing flasks, and somewhere between the sawdust and the tea, talking about the things they'd never quite managed to bring up anywhere else: the chest pain ignored for months, the lump nobody wanted to name, the low mood that had settled in like weather and refused to shift.
What struck the group's early conveners was how quickly men opened up when the setting felt familiar and the stakes felt low. Health wasn't the headline — it was just part of the conversation.
From that informal gathering, a proper organisation took shape. We became a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation because we knew this work had to be sustainable, accountable, and replicable. We wrote our constitution around the principle that men's health outreach has to meet men where they are — not where healthcare services wish they would go. We've grown steadily since, adding sessions, training more health champions, and deepening our partnerships with statutory services across Fife. Every session still has that same quality the founders noticed first: a room full of men, actually talking.
Our mission
Vibrant Health Advocates – Zeta exists to reduce preventable ill health and early death among men in Kirkcaldy and across Fife by creating informal, activity-led spaces where health awareness, early intervention, and peer support can flourish on men's own terms. We believe that reaching men who are reluctant to engage with conventional health services is not a niche concern — it is one of the most urgent public health challenges in Scotland today. Our mission is to close that gap through community trust, practical engagement, and the kind of plain-speaking honesty that men in this part of Fife have always responded to. We do not wait for men to come to us; we go to where they already are, build something real alongside them, and make sure that when they're ready to act on their health, they know exactly how.
The people behind the work
Vibrant Health Advocates – Zeta is led by a board of trustees who bring together expertise in community health, financial management, and deep local knowledge of Fife. They volunteer their time because they believe in what this organisation does — many of them have seen, in their own circles, what happens when men don't get support early enough. Day-to-day delivery is in the hands of our small staff team and our network of trained community health champions, who are the real engine of everything we do.

Community health champions
Our champions are the real engine of everything we do. Trained local men — and allies — who open doors for other men using the same plain-speaking, practical approach that defines our sessions. If you'd like to become one, we'd love to hear from you.
